Why is the concept of the downtown stadium to foreign to the US? Common place across Canada (except for wherever the hell the Ottawa Senators play, which really is the middle of nowhere) and Europe, it seems halfway reasonable to put these places where people live. Where they can be easily accessed by transit or by walking.
In Toronto I can walk to Rogers Centre, Air Canada Centre, Molson Amphitheatre and BMO Field and any smaller venue the bands I like might play.
I guess most Americans live in suburbia.

Alright, I haven’t blogged in a while, but it’s more because nothing interesting has been happening. That, and I’m lazy. Well, mostly lazy.
Anyway, about three times a week I walk through the local industrial area by my house and over the past year or so I’ve been seeing these tiny electric vehicles parked outside an office. They look to be fully functioning city cars, with license plates and insurance and all that good stuff.
Today I finally googled them. Canadian made electric cars. Plug into a normal outlet. 200+ ‘MPG’.
And not for sale in Canada…

It’s amazing that a sport that has such an ‘interesting’ (redneck?) reputation is going to take the lead of major North American sports.
Regardless of your opinion of NASCAR, or motorsport as a whole, this has to be applauded.

The weather is pretty crap this time of year in Toronto, but if you’ve been here long enough, you’ve probably collected enough cold weather/slushy streets gear to keep you warm and dry.
So use it for more than just commuting.
Go for a walk.
Walk to get your coffee. Walk to the theatre. Walk to the grocery store. Walk to the shops. Walk, well…anywhere.
Walking is one of the only things we can do that’s free and allows you almost complete freedom. It’s environmentally friendly. It’s good for you and you don’t need to be in shape. And instead of being a smug cyclist cursing at the cars, you can be a smug pedestrian cursing at the bikers.
Stay on the proper side of the road and that’s about the only rule. That and my Golden Rule: don’t die.
I suggested you go for a walk. Not play in traffic.
Now get out there.

All week in Toronto they’ve been forecasting 20cm+ for Friday and now that it’s Friday and the snow is hitting, why are some people still unprepared?
If you don’t have the intelligence to put snow tires on your car when winter hits I guess I shouldn’t expect you will magically grow the brains required to keep your all-season tired car in the garage in the face of a major snowstorm. But really, is that too much to ask of your fellow driver?
I already think that our driving tests are far too easy and that our ‘training’ programs are more or less a joke, but if we were to revamp them, perhaps we could add a basic IQ test.
